The Sun rose on NASA's solar-powered Mars rover Opportunity for the 5,000th time on Saturday.

"A Martian "sol" lasts about 40 minutes longer than an Earth day, and a Martian year lasts nearly two Earth years. Opportunity's Sol 1 was landing day, Jan. 25, 2004. The prime mission was planned to last 90 sols. NASA did not expect the rover to survive through a Martian winter."

How to make a Tombstone into a Gemstone

My 9 year-old son has very specific tastes, and his favorite frozen pizza is a Tombstone 5-Cheese pizza. He's currently Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian, but he doesn't know it. For a late night munchie, I decided to bake one of his frozen pizza's, not my first choice, but I was willing to make the most of it!

Start with a frozen Tombstone 5-Chesse Pizza or similar. Drizzle with fresh tomato sauce* and olive oil. Sprinkle some more mozzarella and parmesan, along with basil & crushed red pepper to taste... *Marinate olive oil, white onion, garlic, basil, salt & pepper with Cento San Marzano tomatoes.

Bake pizza at 425+ until completely browned on edges.

Worlds Collide

'Located about 250 million light-years away in the constellation of Cancer (The Crab), NGC 2623 gained its unusual and distinctive shape as the result of a major collision and subsequent merger between two separate galaxies. This active star formation is marked by speckled patches of bright blue; these can be seen clustered both in the center and along the trails of dust and gas forming NGC 2623’s sweeping curves (known as tidal tails). These tails extend for roughly 50 000 light-years from end to end. NGC 2623 is in a late stage of merging. It is thought that the Milky Way will eventually resemble NGC 2623 when it collides with our neighboring galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy, in 4 billion years’ time.'
