In the mid 1990's, when the Viennese duo of Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister began collaborating on original material, they emerged at the forefront of a burgeoning genre that had as many titles as influences; Downbeat, Chillout, Trip Hop, Headz, Dub, NuJazz, Lounge, etc. Their ground-breaking approach to electronic music was all encompassing and incorporated several musical influences; Jazz, Reggae, film scores, Bossa, Hip Hop, DnB, New Wave, among others, and then K&D meshed these styles organically within a Dub construct.
"The most blissfully blunted music the world has ever heard." - AllMusicIn 1998, Kruder & Dorfmeister compiled & mixed nineteen remixes (both solo and together) to form the seminal "K & D Sessions" and the double CD would go on to sell over a million copies. Now, after spending the past decade obtaining the licensing rights to the K & D Sessions, !K7 Records will reissue this compilation (along with 3 bonus tracks) digitally for the first time on December 23rd and will also release a limited edition 5X vinyl box set in early 2015.
On a very sad note, Fritz Fitzke, who became synonymous with Kruder & Dorfmeister over the past 20 years, as the visual artist to their events, has recently passed away at the age of 53.
Fortunately, for all of us, we can view his genius HERE forever...
